If you’re running a WordPress  blog, you probably already have at least one spam control installed, but if you are like to have more security against spam, I have collected seven great tools for that purpose. These plugins will help you by blocking spam bots to comment on your blog, by blocking trackback spams and to prevent spam harvesters from collecting email address from your posts.

Akismet – Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not and lets you review the spam it catches under your blog’s “Comments” admin screen.

Bad Behavior – Bad Behavior works with just about PHP based website to help prevent automated systems from running rampant on your site. This includes things such as WordPress, MediaWiki , Drupal  and more.

AVH First Defense Against Spam – The AVH First Defense Against Spam plugin gives you the ability to block spammers before any content is served. Spammers are identified by checking if the visitors IP exists in a database served by stopforumspam.com.

Defensio.com – A spam filtering plugin that supports Open ID and provides you with an RSS feed of both your “good” and “bad” comments.

Delete Spam Daily – This plugin schedules a daily event using wp_cron that deletes all comments marked “spam” in the database, then optimizes the database.

Simple CAPTCHA – Adds a CAPTCHA to your comment area to fool the automated comment bots.

Simple Trackback Validation Plugin – Simple Trackback Validation Plugin for WordPress 2.x performs simple but very effective tests on all incoming trackbacks in order to stop trackback spam.

Spam Karma 2 – Just as the name suggests, this plugin assigns a karma score based on several factors, such as age of the post, the email address, is their a link, and so on. The higher the comment scores, the better. Can also be used to fight the “wrote an interesting post” pingback spam that seems to be everywhere.

WP-Hashcash - WP Hashcash is an antispam plugin that eradicates comment spam on WordPress blogs. It works because your visitors must use obfuscated javascript to submit a proof-of-work that indicates they opened your website in a web browser, not a robot.

Math Comment Spam Protection – Math Comment Spam Protection asks the visitor making the comment to answer a simple math question. This is intended to prove that the visitor is a human being and not a spam robot.

Let us know if you know about some other plugins which will help us in controlling spam.
